I am driven by a constant questioning of what defines the culture I was born into and the innate human urge we have to preserve culture as a 'proof of existence'. In my work, I carefully consider materiality, form, and motif in order to address the ambiguities of a society that strives for the rational but at the same time coexists with the mythical and imaginative. To me, the most inspiring moment is exactly within this margin of living in-between both. The most direct interplay between emotionality, impulsive behaviour, and absolute, seemingly cold-hearted rationality is in the world of finance, which governs most of our everyday life in ways that we are sometimes not aware of. To me, this is absolutely fascinating. Since 2014, I have been closely following market events, researching their gamification aspect and the social impact they have, as well as the psychological behaviour of certain participants. The absurdity and necessity of this market fabric are key inspirations in my work, where I try to challenge my own views on how we function as social beings. I am curious about a dialogue between historical patterns, repetitive images evolving from mythology into today's meme culture as well as a study of marketing psychology.
