For her exhibition Vaporweave, Flora Mottini is presenting around thirty risography prints from her recent work and a large Jacquard weave from this series. The dots and lines intertwine and overlap on paper or fabric to offer visitors dreamlike genre scenes infused with twentieth-century transatlantic popular culture. Flora Mottini’s work immerses the viewer in a universe that is at once pop, troubled and psychedelic. Each work invites the viewer to cross an invisible boundary, lose themselves in the details of the motifs and discover the subtle nuances of color that are gradually revealed. Flora Mottini draws a parallel between the traditional Jacquard loom process and contemporary risograph technology, creating vibrant, textured images from a precise, rhythmic tangle of wefts and colors while leaving room for the unexpected and the random. The exhibition invites us to navigate between these two worlds to explore the multiple dimensions of a body of work in which textiles and paper blend together to take us on a journey through the landscapes of singular exoplanets.
